Why You Should Care

You may think you don't matter, that a single voice cannot make a difference. You may believe that the rich and powerful rule the world, always have, always will.

I feel your pain. I've had the same feelings. I'm not going to tell you you're wrong.

I think the world has always been more about maintaining a balance. I doubt there will ever be the paradise on this earth that so many of us dream about.

But if you stop caring, if you stop participating, we'll lose the balance between good and bad.

For instance today there was a report today that the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) had done a study showing that the centralization of news organizations, that is, the loss of locally owned newspapers and television stations was bad for communities.

If Senator Barbara Boxer of California had not cared, me, you, no one would have known about this study. That's because the FCC ordered the study destroyed. Obviously the FCC was more concerned with whom the study adversely affected, namely big media chains, than the public which funds them and who they are supposed to be watching out for.

So why bother?

Because if any one of us stops caring...we all lose.

In most cases one voice doesn't always make a difference, in some cases it does.

But there's one thing I know for sure, when one voice is joined by another and that voice joins another and we all join together we can become a force for change, a force to be reckoned with.

Please care. If you do, if you take a a few minutes to go vote, to keep tabs on the news, the write a letter or make a phone call, you can also make a difference. And if millions of people all do just that much each day or even once a week...we will make a difference. We will have people watching out for us, like Barbara Boxer, fighting against those who do not, like the FCC.

That's why you should care.
